About Awo
“Awo” means “here” and is used when offering something to another person. It reflects the heart of this project:here is Ateso for you.
For generations, Iteso people have shared, worked, and supported one another. Awo brings that same collective spirit to keeping Ateso active in everyday life.
As families move, children grow up in new environments, and fewer people speak the language regularly, Ateso risks being used less and less. Awo invites us to come together again—to speak, teach, share, and use Ateso as a living tool for communication, connection, and cultural identity for generations to come.
